just got a positive test. im 20 and need advice for things HELP!!?
Hi all!! i am 20 years old (turning 21 in november). I had been 3 weeks late on my period and have been nausiated for the past 2 days. i took a preg test just now to rule that out and in my suprise is said pregnant. I go to school and am graduating in july with an associates degree. I have a job that gives me 30 hr a week. I live w my boyfriend in our own appt and he also has a job. First: is there any way the test may be wrong? and should i take another one? Next: how the heck do i tell my parents??!! my mom wont b too too mad, but my dad is gonna flip!! hard core lol. also when should i tell them? How do i tell my boyfriend? What do i do about work? When do i schedule doctors appt or should i go to a gyno? I have so many questions i am just in shock rite now and need some support and help!! thankyou

False positives are extremely rare, but I suggest you go to the doctor to confim anyway. Go to your regular gyno at first, and then if they're also an OB they'll treat you, or they'll recommend an OB. If you don't have a regular gyno, now's probably the time to find one. Planned parenthood will test you for free if you're itching to get some Dr. confirmation sooner than later.
Make your first doctor's appointment immediately. They'll take another urine test and send you for bloodwork, and then schedule your first prenatal from there.
You'll need to tell your boyfriend sooner or later, but I'd at least wait until you've gotten confirmation from some medical professional or another. He'll likely be shocked and not too happy at first, but if he's ready for a child and your relationship is strong, he will eventually get over that and prepare to be a father. If he flips out and leaves you, good riddance, you don't want him to be in your child's life anyway.
Do not let anyone pressure you into an abortion. That is your own personal choice. It sounds to me like you don't want to do that, and I commend you (even tho I'm pro-choice, I'm not exactly "pro-abortion").
Work until you pop if medically possible. This will give you more time with your child when he/she's born. FMLA (if you live in the States) gives you up to 12 weeks unpaid medical leave where your job is safe, and they can't demote you or take your insurance away (tho you'll still have to pay premiums). I'm not sure about the school laws, but do everything in your power to stay in school as long as you can, and resume after your maternity leave and you have sufficient childcare.
Tell your mom first, and then let her help you tell your dad. He may not be as upset as you think, he may just be happy to hear he's going to be a granddad! What's done is done, no sense worrying about what you can't change. Hopefully he'll see it that way too, and move forward with you, towards a healthy pregnancy.
