MMA bag gloves
Boxing and MMA aren’t too different and many of the boxing techniques are replicated in MMA hand strikes. Therefore using a punch bag will be part of your training regime and offers the chance to get in shape whilst perfecting your moves. Whilst undertaking bag work it is essential to protect your hands and prevent injury. MMA bag gloves are readily available; weighing 10oz they offer suitable protection to your knuckles in addition to support of the wrists.
MMA sparring gloves
Sparring is the next stage once you have trained for a few weeks. At this point you will find you need to buy several items of MMA gear, with sparring gloves being one of them. Most commonly weighing 8oz; sparring gloves are thinner and lighter than bag gloves. This provides enough freedom in your hands to practice grappling moves in addition to strikes, whilst still providing some protection.
Fighting gloves
If you ever decide that you would like to take the sport a little further and have an actual fight then you will have to add some real fight gloves to your MMA gear. Anyone entering into an amateur MMA bout is required to wear 6oz gloves. Be aware that whilst they provide a bit more protection that the 4oz models that professionals were; they are not suitable for sparring situations.
