martial arts ?
i need some foot and shin pads for my 7 year old , there are some shin pads with instep protection or separate shin and foot pads witch one's do i need ?
thanks xx
he has a brilliant teacher thanx =o)
would he be able to spar with the shin-instep one's ?
For a 7 year old I would get as much protection as possible. My son is 6, and I see him and his classmates get a little wild and throw kicks with their toes out, feet at odd angles, etc. when they spar. This could lead to a broken toe if it hits a knee or elbow just right. Combine that with the sharp / unkempt toenails some kids have and I definitely go for the full coverage footgear and separate shin pads.
Century Martial Arts makes the typical foam-dipped gear that is great for kids - affordable, durable, and in youth/child sizes.
Once he gets bigger, stronger, and more skilled you can move him up into more advanced gear from Fairtex, Throwdown, etc. but for now Century should be just great. Link to the sparring gear page below.
One bit of advice - print a picture of the gear you like and show his instructor. Just to make sure it's acceptable in class. Some instructors have a discount, too - if you order through the school you may save 5-10%.
Hope that helps!
